How does IOE central admission work?

Central admission at IOE runs on three scheduled merit lists, not on college offers. Each list is published by 10:00, carries a complaint window from 11:00 to 14:00 that same day, and is reissued in revised form by 18:00; anything after the third list is run by the individual campus rather than centrally. Your priority order is safe to fill honestly — put the college you genuinely want first, because a lower choice cannot pull you out of a higher one you already qualified for, and your rank alone decides whether you qualify. Two rules cost people seats every year. You cannot hold two seats at once: an earlier admission must be formally cancelled before a new one can be recorded, and cancelling costs money. And a seat is not real until your name is recorded on the central admission portal — a campus that fails to record you leaves you not admitted, and the procedure puts that on the campus.

Which answer you need

This is the largest section in the library because central admission is where the rules are densest and the mistakes are most expensive. It divides into three groups: the mechanics of the merit lists and the windows, the reservation quotas and their paperwork, and the things that can go wrong after you think you are admitted. The last group is the one people read too late.

Two rules cost people seats every year and both are procedural rather than academic. You cannot hold two seats at once, so an earlier admission has to be formally cancelled before a new one can be recorded — and cancelling is not free. And a seat only exists once your name is recorded on the central portal; a campus that tells you that you are admitted but does not record you has left you not admitted, and the procedure places that duty on the campus rather than on you. Check the portal yourself rather than trusting a verbal confirmation.

  • What is the IOE central admission timetable, and how many merit lists are there?Three, and all three are centrally scheduled. In the 2083/84 cycle they were published on 23 August, 30 August and 6 September 2026, each by 10:00, each with a complaint window from 11:00 to 14:00 and a revised list by 18:00. Anything after the third list is run by the individual campus.Updated
  • How does the IOE college priority order work?Rank the colleges in the order you genuinely want them. A lower choice cannot pull you out of a higher one your rank already reached, and your IOE rank alone decides where you qualify. You file a separate Admission Priority Application form at each campus, through that campus’s own online portal.Updated
  • What can I do if my IOE admission list entry is wrong?Every IOE merit list carries a published complaint window of 11:00 to 14:00 on the day it appears, with a revised list issued by 18:00 the same day. If your campus does not hear you fairly, you may petition the Centralized Admission Monitoring Committee by email, with evidence, inside the admission period.Updated
  • Can I hold two IOE seats at once?No. You may hold only one seat at a time, and an earlier admission has to be formally cancelled before a new one can be recorded. Cancelling before classes start costs 10% of the fee you paid or Rs 15,000, whichever is less, and the deduction rises from there.Updated

  • I missed the IOE application deadline. Is there any route left?Two. A campus may take extra applications alongside its second and third merit lists if it announces them in advance, and vacant seats can be filled up to 2 December 2026, on terms that refund nothing at all if you later cancel.Updated
  • Until when can I change my BE programme after admission?Until 5 November 2026, when Unique IOE Roll Numbers are issued to everyone admitted by 2 November at 17:00. After that the programme on your roll number is the one you graduate in. A move from Full Fee to Regular inside the same programme stays open.Updated
  • What is the Unique IOE Roll Number, and when do I get it?It is the number IOE assigns to every admitted BE and B.Arch student, and it is the point at which your admission becomes fixed. It is issued on 5 November 2026 if you were admitted by 2 November at 17:00, and on 6 December if you came in through the vacant-seat window.Updated
  • Are seats reserved for women in IOE engineering admissions?Yes. Ten per cent of the positions in both the Regular and the Full Fee programmes are reserved for women applicants, which across the five constituent campuses is 56 Regular and 145 Full Fee seats. It is a floor applied after the general merit list rather than a separate competition.Updated
  • Can I transfer between IOE campuses after enrolling?Generally no, and a Regular seat is never transferred to another Regular seat. One narrow route exists into a full-fee programme at another campus, at the start of second or third year, and it requires a vacant seat there, higher marks than the other applicants, and the whole remaining fee in one lump sum.Updated
  • Which documents do I need at IOE admission?Originals and one attested copy each of your SEE and +2 transcripts, board certificates, character certificates and Nepali citizenship certificate. Equivalence and migration certificates apply only if you came from outside Tribhuvan University or the NEB. You may send a representative in your place.Updated
  • Can an engineering programme be cancelled for the year if too few students enrol?At an IOE constituent campus, yes. If the Full Fee and sponsored quota of a programme is not filled to 60% within the first three merit lists, the campus may suspend that programme for the year, and admission fees must then be refunded in full.Updated
  • Are there reserved IOE seats for staff or their children?Yes, and the letter has to exist before you apply. A permanent teacher or staff member past probation applies with prior written approval from the IOE Dean’s office; a child of one applies with a recommendation letter from the office where the parent works.Updated
  • How does IOE reservation work, and what are the quota percentages?Twenty per cent of the Regular seats at IOE constituent campuses is reserved for deprived communities, and that block is itself split nine ways: women 20%, Janajati 16%, Madhesi 14%, Dalit 9%, disabled 9%, backward and remote region 7%, Muslim 7%, Tharu 10% and other 8%.Updated
  • When are reservation quota documents due at IOE?Within five days of the date the entrance result is published, at the place IOE designates. The booklet states that after that date no action is taken on a late candidate’s documents at all, so missing it forfeits the quota rather than delaying it.Updated
  • Can I use a reservation quota at more than one IOE campus?No. An applicant admitted under a reserved quota at one constituent campus cannot later be admitted under a reserved quota at another, reserved names are published only for the first three lists, and the reservation facility may be used at one level of study only.Updated

  • Is there an aptitude test for B.Arch admission at IOE?Yes. A campus or college may conduct a subject-related Aptitude Test for applicants whose names are published for Architecture admission. In the 2083 cycle it ran inside the priority-amendment window, from 19 August 2026 at 10:00 to 22 August at 15:00, and that window has closed.Updated
  • How many IOE seats are reserved for teachers, staff and their children?Four in total across the whole Institute, not per campus. Two are self-advancement seats at BE and B.Arch level for permanent teachers and staff past probation, and two are Regular-side scholarship seats for permanent TU and IOE staff and their children.Updated
  • What is the TU registration step after IOE admission?You submit one copy each of your transcripts, certificates and citizenship with the TU registration form and pay Rs 500 if you passed your qualifying examination in Nepal, or Rs 1,000 if abroad. Then you attend in person on the notified date with four photographs for your campus ID and library card.Updated
  • Are IOE seats reserved for foreign nationals, and how do they apply?Yes. A number of seats equal to one twelfth of the full-fee seats at IOE constituent campuses is reserved for foreign nationals, and there are three different entrance routes depending on where you studied and whether your country is in SAARC.   • Who qualifies for the IOE inclusive reservation quota, and what do you have to prove?Belonging to one of the nine listed communities is necessary and not sufficient. You must also have studied at a government or community school, passed classes 11 and 12 as a regular student at the first attempt, hold a local-level recommendation that your family is below the poverty line, and produce a category certificate from a named authority.Updated
