What is the TU registration step after IOE admission?

You submit one copy each of your transcripts, certificates and citizenship with the TU registration form and pay Rs 500 if you passed your qualifying examination in Nepal, or Rs 1,000 if abroad. Then you attend in person on the notified date with four photographs for your campus ID and library card.

Admission and university registration are two separate steps, and the second one carries an attendance requirement people miss because it looks like paperwork. For the Tribhuvan University registration form you submit one copy each of your academic marksheets and certificates and of your Nepali citizenship certificate; if you are already registered with TU you submit a photocopy of your registration details instead. Registration costs Rs 500 if you passed your qualifying examination inside Nepal and Rs 1,000 if you passed it abroad, and it is charged only to people not previously registered with TU. The campus then issues your campus identity card and library membership card, and for those you have to appear in person on the date stated, carrying two recent passport-size and two recent auto-size photographs. Four photographs in two sizes, so have them taken together.

The TU registration form

The campus ID and library card

Both are issued by the campus rather than by the university. For these you must appear in person on the date stated, carrying two recent passport-size photographs and two recent auto-size photographs. Auto size is the smaller stamp-size print a photo studio in Nepal will know by that name, and having all four taken in one sitting is cheaper than going back.

Is attendance on the notified day really compulsory?

Yes, and the booklet says so twice. The identity-card step requires the student to be present in person on the stated date, and a separate clause requires compulsory attendance on the day the campus notifies for the registration-form work. Neither is a form you can post in, and a missed date means chasing an office that has moved on to the next cohort.

One thing the campus will not do for you

It will not attest your copies. The booklet carries a standing note that campuses do not provide the attestation service and that getting documents attested by an authorised person is the applicant’s own responsibility. Budget a separate errand for it rather than assuming the counter will stamp them while you wait.

Where the registration and card charges sit in the fee table

They are printed as one-off lines in the constituent-campus fee schedule rather than being folded into tuition, which is why they are easy to overlook when a family is budgeting from a headline figure. The Tribhuvan University registration line is Rs 500 for a Regular student and Rs 500 for a Full Fee student, and Rs 2,000 for a foreign student. The identity card line is Rs 200 for all three. A student health insurance line of Rs 500 sits beside them. Each is charged once rather than per semester, and each falls due in the same first payment as everything else on the one-off side of the table.

Registering once is not the end of it

University registration happens once, but campus enrolment repeats every part of the degree, and the booklet makes the second one a condition of progressing. After sitting the examination of any year and part, a student has to be admitted for the year and part that follows, and a student who does not fill that form is not admitted to the higher level. It is an administrative step that quietly ends degrees, because it looks optional in a way the first registration never does. Treat every semester’s enrolment form as compulsory, and confirm it has been recorded rather than assuming the department did it.
