Is the hostel free at Imperial College of Engineering?

Yes, for enrolled students, for all four years, and the daily bus from Koteshwor is free too. Food in the mess is paid separately.

Hostel accommodation is free for enrolled students for the full four years, and the daily college bus from Koteshwor to the Tathali campus is free. Both are inside the published fee rather than added to it, and both are stated in the fee structure itself rather than offered on request. Food is the exception and is paid separately: you pay for what you eat in the mess. Tribhuvan University’s registration and examination charges are billed separately at actual, because they are the university’s charges rather than the college’s. Those four lines are the whole arrangement. What makes them worth stating is the baseline they sit against, because IOE publishes no hostel rate anywhere in its own fee schedule and puts daily transport on the student in writing.

Why is this worth stating rather than assuming?

Because nothing in the IOE system requires it. The booklet makes daily transport to campus the student’s own responsibility, and its fee schedule carries two hostel lines with no amount in either, both left to the campus to decide.

So a free hostel place and a free bus are not the normal arrangement being described in normal words. They are two costs the published rules leave open, closed here in the direction of the student.

What you still pay for

The mess. Food is the one line that stays yours, and it is also the line IOE’s own schedule never mentions anywhere, for any campus, in any fee category.

Two honest caveats

Ask the office for the current bus pickup time and stops rather than relying on a web page, because those change and a route is not a published figure.

And if you are coming from the far side of the valley, ride the route once before you plan around it. The bus covers Koteshwor to Tathali, not your journey to Koteshwor.
