Does an engineering college in Nepal provide daily transport?
IOE’s own booklet states that arranging daily transport to and from campus is the student’s own responsibility. Anything a college provides is above that baseline.
Section 16.3 of the BE/B.Arch Booklet 2083 states plainly that arranging daily transport to and from campus is the student’s own responsibility. No provider in the IOE system, constituent campus or affiliated private college, is obliged to move you. The absence is visible in the money as well as in the rules: IOE’s published fee schedule for its own campuses lists thirteen charges per semester, four one-time charges and three deposits, and not one of them is transport. So four years of daily travel is a real cost that appears in nobody’s advertised fee and is paid in hours as well as rupees. Anything a college does run is therefore a genuine difference between two colleges rather than a formality, and it is worth asking about in writing rather than assuming.
Where the rule sits, and why that matters
The booklet puts it in section 16, headed "other information", alongside the inter-campus transfer rules and a pointer to the academic calendar. It is not written as a duty on the campus that has been waived. It is written as a fact about who arranges the journey.
Which should change how you compare colleges
Take the actual route on a working day, at the hour you would travel. Not on a Saturday, and not by asking someone else.
Multiply the daily fare by roughly 200 teaching days, then by four years.
Add the time. Three hours a day is around 600 hours a year your classmates spend on something else.
Then compare that total against the hostel option at each college, and against the fee difference you were originally weighing.
Is a hostel place the obvious alternative?
Not automatically, because the booklet leaves hostels to the campus in exactly the way it leaves transport to you. IOE’s fee schedule carries two hostel lines and prints no amount in either, marking both "as per the campus decision", so a place at a constituent campus is neither free nor guaranteed and has no published price.
That makes the two costs a pair rather than an either/or. Ask each college the same three things about both: is it available to me, what does it cost across four years, and is that in writing.

At Imperial College of Engineering
For what it is worth on our own side of this: the hostel is free for enrolled students for all four years, and the daily college bus from Koteshwor to the Tathali campus is free. Food in the mess you pay for. Ask the office for the current pickup time and stops rather than taking them from a web page.
