Why does Janakpur Engineering College appear where Imperial College of Engineering should be?

They are the same institution. The college was established in 2058 BS as Janakpur Engineering College and renamed in 2082 BS; IOE’s records still carry the former name, with the current Tathali address beside it.

They are the same institution, holding the same Tribhuvan University affiliation continuously since 2058 BS. The name changed in 2082 BS and the campus moved from Kupondole in Lalitpur to a purpose-built campus at Tathali, Bhaktapur; IOE’s records still use the former name. Both current IOE sources do. The 2083 B.E./B.Arch booklet lists "Janakpur Engineering College, Bhaktapur" in section 2.6, and Tribhuvan University’s own IOE page lists "Janakpur Engineering College, Tathali, Bhaktapur" as the tenth of ten affiliated colleges. Note what that second entry actually shows: the address is the current one and only the name is out of date, which is the clearest evidence available that this is a records lag rather than two different colleges. The practical consequence is one line long. When you fill in your college priority order, search for Janakpur Engineering College. Searching for Imperial may return nothing at all.

How to verify it independently

Open ioe.tu.edu.np, go to "IOE at a glance" under About IOE, and read the list headed "Affiliated Colleges of IOE". The tenth entry is the college. IOE’s own 2083 booklet, section 2.6 on page 9, carries the same name against Bhaktapur. Neither is our page, and both are the affiliating institute’s.

What it means for your priority form

Search for Janakpur Engineering College. Searching for Imperial may return nothing. One further quirk: the portal’s link beside that entry points at the old jec.edu.np address, which forwards to the current website, so you arrive in the right place but on a homepage rather than a form.

And the part that is genuinely confusing

Some map listings under the old name are marked permanently closed. Those are records of an address the college left, not of a college that shut. Directory sites lag further still: several carry the Kupondole address, and one publishes a diploma programme the college does not run. Getting stale listings corrected is slow work and it is the college’s own to do.
